Day of Service and Week of Sore Muscles

April 21, 2014
Jordyn's weekly e-mail
Serving in: Federal Way, Washington
Companion: Sister Goble

Do you remember Mary? She's a rockstar. We've been teaching her a lot this past week. On Thursday we felt prompted to ask her about her testimony of this church and of Joseph Smith and she said "I thought Joseph Smith was a little weird at first, but after I prayed about it I believe that he is a prophet." Four months ago she was given six months to live and she was starting to see some of the symptoms of her health failing this week, so we asked her if she would want to move up her baptism date to April 27th. She said she would love to, and so she's getting baptized on Sunday! Our bishop wants to do a fontside confirmation so that we don't waste any time with her health. She's awesome. When she told us about her six months to live she said "well, that's what the doctor told me. I'm planning on sticking around for the next 26 years though."

How great is she??

We were in a lesson with Mary and she told us that if it weren't for Romney running for president and showing the world that Mormons are normal people, she probably wouldn't be talking to us then. Isn't it interesting to see how and why things play out? The world now has an answer as to why Mitt Romney ran for president.

We also got to do some other fun stuff this week like:
Institute! They like to have missionaries there in case someone brings a nonmember friend and since we're part-time YSA we got to go. It was really good, we talked about the book of Helaman and the parallels in it to our day today.

We did a zone service activity too on Friday at a place called Funland. They're building a park and we got to go and move piles of dirt and dig trenches and pump water out of trenches and spread gravel and do random stuff that I never thought I'd do on my mission. It was really fun though, we got to be in the sun for a few hours and serve the community.

Day of Service

AHH it feels good to work!!

Of course, Sister Goble and I were so sore the next day from shoveling that we had to literally roll/fall out of bed and onto the floor to say our good morning prayers, and I basically crawled out of our room into the living room but that's beside the point. Serving others is the best.

Easter was good, after our 7-hour run of church we dropped off an Easter basket to one of our investigators and then ran to a member's house for dinner. It was loud, and there was lots of good food so I felt right at home :)

Sorry it's lame, I can't think of anything else to write about. Hope you all have an awesome week! Love ya!
